A Late Christmas Night Thought

 By James Jetty

~ ~ ~

Now I shall try to keep this as short and sweet as possible. Seeing as I am supposed to be snuggled in my bed sleeping. But there is a thought in my head that keeps me up at night. A thought that can send a shiver down my spine in the middle of triple digit heat wave.

“What is a driver's life worth?”

I am not trying to make a joke here! I am quite honest in my question. Many trucking companies are so worried about moving freight that they do not care what it does to their employees.

They do not care if the driver is pushing themselves on a road that is covered in Ice. They do not care that this driver cannot only kill themselves but several other innocent people. They truly do not care if a driver is not on a steady sleeping cycle.

I know many people think a trucker's life is a great one. But truly stop to think about it. Think of how many times you have seen a driver grab a cup of coffee to help keep awake on an all night run, when they should be safely tucked in bed sleeping.

The drivers can make a stand but the other people on the highway need to make one also! I only offer are these thoughts. I am no politician nor do I have a ready access to a mainstream public broadcast.

All I can do is to vow that I will never put you in the position to be hurt when I am behind the wheel. A small vow that is seemingly useless, except to my own being.
